Starting With Real Problems
We started marquanthelio because we kept seeing the same frustrating pattern. Talented people were stuck in roles that didn't match their potential, not because they lacked ability, but because they lacked practical business knowledge. Traditional education wasn't filling this gap – it was too theoretical, too slow, and frankly, too disconnected from what actually happens in modern workplaces.
Our first office was a converted storage room in Reading. We had three desks, one coffee machine that worked half the time, and a genuine belief that business education could be more practical and immediately applicable. Those early days taught us everything about staying lean while building something meaningful.
Building Something That Actually Works
By 2022, we'd learned a lot about what people actually needed to advance their careers. Spoiler alert: it wasn't another certificate to hang on their wall. People needed practical skills, real-world scenarios, and honest feedback about their professional development.
This was when we made our biggest shift – from traditional training sessions to comprehensive development programs. We started working with businesses across the Thames Valley, helping their teams develop financial literacy, strategic thinking, and leadership capabilities that they could use immediately. The feedback was encouraging, but more importantly, we started seeing real career advancement among participants.
What We're Building Next
Here's where things get interesting. We're not planning to become the biggest business education platform – that's not the point. Instead, we're focused on becoming the most effective one for professionals who want practical, applicable skills that actually advance their careers.
Our next phase involves deeper partnerships with forward-thinking businesses who understand that employee development isn't a cost center – it's a competitive advantage.
